UPCOMING: HISTORY OF PU'ER TEA
Pu’er has risen in fame rapidly in the last few decades, and the lore around it is fragmented. Some prefer ripe shou pu’er, while others think raw sheng is the real tea. Some favour classic factory recipes, while others chase single origin production.
Pu’er comes from the oldest tea region on earth, but it’s history isn’t very clear. We do know that Qing (1644-1911) court loved it, but what was the original pu’er like? When did the practice of aging pu’er tea begin?
Frankly, you won’t find clear answers in this session, but rather we will look at the most informed speculations currently available. We’ll also drink a couple of different Yunnanese pu’er teas, some from the private collection of our host.
