Have you ever tasted artisanal Japanese black tea, also known as Wakōcha (和紅茶)?
While Japan is celebrated for its green teas, its lesser-known black teas have a fascinating story and a wonderful diversity of flavours waiting to be explored.
Join us for a relaxed tea gathering featuring a selection of organically grown black teas from the lush mountains of Miyazaki, Japan, produced by a tea farm TeeMaa works closely with.
We'll explore how different tea cultivars shape the character of Wakōcha, tasting single-cultivar teas such as Yamanami, Kōshun, Minami Sayaka, Minekaori, Takachiho and Benifuuki.
We'll also compare spring and summer harvests of the same cultivar. How does the season influence a tea's aroma, flavour, body and astringency?
Over 1.5 hours, we'll brew, taste and discuss as many teas as time allows. A casual gathering for curious tea drinkers and enthusiasts alike — no previous tea knowledge needed!
