In these tastings, teas are often prepared in the Chinese gongfu style, an ancient brewing technique that highlights the precision and artistry behind tea preparation. Gongfu cha, which translates to "making tea with skill," reflects the values of traditional Chinese culture, emphasizing patience, mindfulness, and respect for nature. This method uses a higher tea-to-water ratio and short, repeated infusions to bring out the tea’s full flavor profile, creating a sensory experience that connects participants with centuries-old tea rituals. The duration of a five-tea tea tasting is around 2–2½ hours.
A private tea tasting is held only for the party that reserved it.
You may freely choose the teas for the tasting either beforehand with the help of our online store's catalog, or when you arrive at our tea house. You may also leave the selection to us according to your wishes.
Please contact us by email so that we can set a date for the tea tasting! We usually have available slots within 1–2 weeks. We're able to host a tea tasting mostly during our normal opening hours, with the tasting starting at 10:00–17:00 on weekdays and 10:00–16:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. If you have a specific window of time for a tea tasting, you're welcome to inquire about suitable times before making a purchase (the chosen language may affect available times). You may also pay on the spot.
The tea tasting will be held at our tea house at Annankatu 19, Helsinki or at our sister tea room Muyō at Uudenmaankatu 15, Helsinki. We can also have the tasting in another place of your choosing, with an additional fee.
We will send you the printable electronic gift card through email. You may choose "pick up at our shop" as the delivery method. If you'd like a physical gift card sent via Post office, please leave a message to us via info@teemaa.com.
Gift card is valid for one and a half years.
