Origin: Tokoname, Japan

Material: clay

Capacity: 150 ml / 5 fl oz (full capacity without tea leaves)

Dimensions: ø10 x H:8 cm

Tanikawa Jin's artwork.

Tanka, literally meaning "carbonization", is a technique, when the ceramic ware is fired for over 30 hours in a reduction chamber. The marks on the surface are achieved with the so-called Hidasuki technique. Before the final firing, the teapot is wrapped in rice straws, and as the straws burn, they react with the iron in the clay resulting in unique scarlet patterns on the surface.

Jin Tanka Mogake shiboridashi has exceptionally tall walls. Thanks to that, the clay does not get overheated around the rim even if hot water is used for brewing tea, so the pot is not only suitable for premium Japanese green teas, but it's ideal for Chinese and Taiwanese teas as well.jin
